Rochdale boss Keith Hill released seven players from his squad as he looks to lay the foundations for next season.James Spencer, Mark Jones, Sam Russell, Nathan D'Laryea, Scott Wiseman, Lee Thorpe and Tom Newey will all be looking for new clubs and the Dale manager agrees it's never a good day in the life of a footballer.

Scott Wiseman"It's the one day of the year you don't look forward too, either as a player or a manager but it is part of life. There is nothing worse than telling someone they don't have a job because we have lived with them all season, they are part of the family but sadly there can be no room for sentiment in progression."

Three players still under contract have been placed on the transfer list.Clark Keltie, Lee McEvilly and Kallum Higginbotham  whilst three players in Gary Jones, Joe Thompson and Ciaran Toner have been offered new terms.

"I know people will have their opinions about who stays or goes and that is fine, because I have mine too. I'm the manager and I will live or die by my decisions like every other manager at every other club. People have to leave football clubs it is part of the whole cycle, managers or players will go and at the moment I'm staying. I have no intention of leaving we have a plan and we are going to see it through.

"There is nothing personal in the decision making process, it is all about the team and taking it forward. Players either fit into your plans or they don't - it is that simple."
