Great To Be Back
Rochdale midfielder Gary Jones returned to action at the weekend and he more than anyone was delighted to be back playing again.Following an enforced encampment on the sidelines through a combination of injury and team form, the Dale skipper returned to get a full 90 minutes of football under his belt.
"It's great to be back on the pitch, it's been a frustrating three months sat watching but fair play to the lads out there who kept me out of the team by playing so well.
"You don't change a winning team so I knew I couldn't just walk back in when I returned from injury. It is tough just watching but you have to stay focussed and I've been behind the lads 100% during my time on the sidelines.
"I felt a little rusty at times during the game but overall I'm pleased to be back out there on the pitch and to get a full 90 minutes under my belt.Hopefully I can maintain a run in the side now and get fully match fit."
With a squad brimming with quality Jones sees a fight on his hands if he is to retain that central midfield position but it is one he is ready for and one he believes will ultimately bring success.
"This is without doubt the strongest squad we've had in years and it's certainly stronger than the one we went to Wembley with. We have competition in every department now and I really do think this is the year we are going up.
"We have come through the transfer window with the loss of Will Buckley but overall I think we are all pleased to see the rumours turn out to be unfounded regarding certain players leaving. You have to keep your best players if you want the best out of the season and despite the sale of Will, we have managed to retain our best."
