Hill Lands Jones

12 February 2013

Manager Keith Hill has bolstered his squad with the addition of midfielder Ritchie Jones, subject to the relevant clearance from the Football League and FA.

The 26-year-old, who was a free agent after departing Bradford City in January, has joined Dale on non-contract terms.

Hill is delighted to have secured his services: “He’s got an abundance of ability and he’s a naturally gifted player who wanted to come here. He had opportunities to go to other League Two clubs but feels as though this is the best place to re-start his career.

“He can play a number of roles including centre midfield which is his preferred position, but when you’ve got the likes of Andy Haworth then I feel as though we need to address the balance on the opposite of the pitch.”

Jones began his career at Old Trafford where he skippered United’s youth team and featured for the club’s successful reserve side, as well as making five first team appearances.

He had loan spells at Colchester, Barnsley and Yeovil during his time at United before joining Hartlepool 2008. Jones also a spell at Oldham Athletic before moving to Bradford City in the summer of 2011, and has made ten appearance for the Bantams this season including in their penalty shoot-out win over Arsenal at Valley Parade in the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup.

Welcome to Spotland, Ritchie!
